Booker T advances to the SHIP!
Reviews with Rob | Booker T. vs Boerne
The UIL 4A State Semifinal game saw 28-7 Booker T. Washington high school take on perennial state contender 32-5 Boerne high school. The game started out as a chess match. Booker T. trying to speed them up; Boerne executing at its own pace. Boerne, having made its third straight trip to the state tournament, looked unrattled by the Eagle's speed and athleticism. Unsigned senior G Trevor Agarwal took and made some big shots for the Greyhounds, which netted him 12 points on 4-7 shooting. Not to be outdone, ℅ 2024 P Chris McDermott was a monster on the inside for the Golden Eagles. Every time Booker T. needed a spark they looked to him and he delivered. Even catching two back-to-back alley-oop dunks. ℅ 2024 G Odis Carter, Jr. also had his imprint over the first half. His timely shooting would keep the Eagles close whenever Boerne started to take a lead. He would finish the half with 9 points on 3-5 shooting from the three-point line, but the Greyhounds would take a slim 32-31 lead into halftime.
The guard play for Booker T. in the second half was phenomenal. Carter, Jr. placed his name squarely on the need-to-know with an incredible shooting performance that saw him net 11 points on 4-6 from the field in the third quarter alone. The unsigned senior backcourt of Andre Walker, II, and Davion Smith were the anchors to righting the ship. Smith with his harassing defense and Walker with his heady playmaking. However, Boerne would not go away. They started bombing away from the three-point line. Unsigned senior G Barrett Pape would contribute immensely, along with unsigned senior W Houston Hendrix. Boerne seemed poised to take the game. In the end, McDermott was too strong down low and Booker T. hit some big free throws that would seal a 75-69 victory, propelling them into a state championship final against a familiar opponent in Dallas Faith Family.
Boerne was led by: Barrett Pape with 19 points, 6 assists, and 7 rebounds; Houston Hendrix with 14 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals; Koen Wolff with 14 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds
Booker T. was led by: Odis Carter, Jr. with 24 points and 3 steals; Chris McDermott with 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 3 blocks; Andre Walker, II with 11 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds
