Prospect Watch: Point Guards 2024

Here is a list of 8 point guards to be on the lookout for this season from the 2024 class. These guards had a solid summer season and are looking for it to translate into the upcoming high school season.

Prospect Watch 2024 Point Guards

Tres Luzey 6’2” | The Woodlands Christian Academy BSH80

Tres is more than just a scorer and he showed it this summer, especially when he was running with LivOn. He was getting more than 6 assists per game. He is a deep ball threat and has a really good handle on the ball. He is really good in pick-n-roll/pick-n-pop situations. Look for the returning lead scorer for the Warriors last season to have a tremendous senior season this year.

Qasim Byod 6’0” | Dickinson BSH80

QB is a super speedy guard with some wiggle in his game. He takes a lot of really tough contested shots and hits them. He is also a really tough on-ball defender. Last season for the Gators he averaged 23.4 points, 5.3 steals, and 3.3 assists per game. QB will be a tough assignment all season for opponents.

Dylan Jackson 6’0” | Pasadena Dobie BSH80

Dylan really made a statement at the Doug’s Dozen Classic this past May. He has a knack for scoring the basketball and can score it at a high percentage at all three levels. He could have a really big senior campaign if he displays leadership skills. His ability to get a bucket will open up the floor for him to create for his teammates.

Chase Ashby 6’3” | Atascocita BSH80

Chase is a pass first lead guard that can also score the basketball. His IQ of the game on both sides of the ball is a tremendous attribute that he brings to the table. He is a competitor and doesn’t back down from any challenge. His ability to set up and find players on the floor is going to be huge for the Eagles this year. Don’t play too far off of him either, he may burn you from deep as well.

Odis Carter Jr. 5’10” | Houston Washington BSH80

Odis is a really tough guard. He is very scrappy on the floor. He is a tough on-ball defender and is hard to get by. He is a really good long ball shooter also. He was big in their run to UIL State Championships last year. He will be a force once again this season as last year he averaged 17.9 points, 4 steals, and 3 assists per game. Had 90 made three pointers while shooting 36% from the arc.

Nathan Kongolo 6’5” | Alief Taylor BSH80

Nathan showed up, and was big time last season for the Lions. His play put them in third place in the district as they qualified for the playoffs for the first time since the 2017/2018 season. He is a big guard with great feel. He has a good skill set offensively and is a good defender as he can guard multiple positions on the court. He can play above the rim and absorbs contact well while playing off of two feet.

J’mar Franklin 5’11” | C.E. King BSH80

J’mar was at St.Thomas Catholic last season, and they were Top 10 teams in the city. J’mar has a nice first step and is very quick laterally. He led his team last year with 12.7 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game to a 26-3 record overall. Transferring over the C.E. King should be a great fit as he will once again have interior players to play with in the toughest district in the state of Texas.

Jace Jeffries 5’11” | Concordia Lutheran BSH80

Jace had a good season last year with the Crusaders and during the summer with Houston Flight where he was allowed to be the focal piece of the team. He is a really good shooter from the perimeter in a catch and shoot role. He penetrates the lane and finds his teammates when the defense collapses. Plays off of two feet when attacking the basket for strong finishes. He will be the sole leader this season for the Crusaders.
