Reviews with Rob | Beaumont United vs San Antonio Brennan
In the nightcap, the UIL 6A State Semifinal saw 35-1 Beaumont United take on 32-7 San Antonio Brennan. This was a game that was billed as experience vs youth. Beaumont United has won back-to-back state championships in the 5A classification and Brennan has gone up against juggernauts all over the state this season. It was a chippy game from the onset. Brennan did not back down from the physicality. ℅ 2024 G Kayde Dotson had a good shooting performance that saw him get 11 points on 3-4 from the field. The University of Washington commit G Wesley Yates, III also was aggressive with his drives to the basket, using his bigger frame to absorb contact and still finish. He would also net 11 points in a very tight first half. ℅ 2026 W Isaiah Ward kept Brennan’s head above water. He had 8 points and 9 rebounds on 50% shooting. Even though Brennan was 8-27 from the field in the first half, they would only be down by 10 with the score being 32-22.
Brennan came out rejuvenated in the second half, looking like they had settled in and were ready to take this game. ℅ 2025 G Kingston Flemings was poised and unphased by the moment. He hit big shots and was playing tight defense on the Timberwolves' guards. Isaiah Ward also continued to play steady; so much so, that people didn’t even believe that he was a freshman. Prairie View football commit W Trealyn Porchia gave a valiant effort for Coach Green. His toughness and ability to always be around the ball were what gave Beaumont United a huge spark. When it looked like things were in doubt, the Timberwolves turned to Wesley Yates, III to lead them to the promised land. He would deliver and hit some big free throws down the stretch. Even so, this game would come down to a last shot where Brennan got an excellent look but the ball just didn’t go in. Beaumont United would get a 70-68 victory that would propel them into the state finals for the third year in a row.
Brennan was led by: Isaiah Ward with 26 points and 14 rebounds; Kingston Flemings with 14 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals
Beaumont United was led by: Wesley Yates, III with 31 points and 7 rebounds; Kayde Dotson with 16 points; Trealyn Porchia with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals
